As more and more people are fleeing massive coastal cities in favor of a more laid back lifestyle, it’s no surprise that the demand for homes in Charlotte is skyrocketing. With a booming economic district, impressive offering of homes, and affordable pricing, this small city has everything that you could ever want.

If you’re considering making the move to the Queen City, learn more about some of the most popular neighborhoods to help you narrow down your search.

Uptown

Despite the name, the Uptown neighborhood in Charlotte is located in the heart of downtown. Filled with restaurants, museums, and cultural attractions, Uptown is a thriving area that is the heart of the city and home to nearly 30,000 people.

The neighborhood itself is broken up into four different wards, which are all known for different elements. The First Ward is predominantly a residential area while the Second Ward is the government epicenter. The Third Ward is home to Bank of America Stadium and other sports venues, and the Fourth Ward—the most popular historic district—is filled with Victorian homes and walkable access to countless restaurants and offices.

Eastover

Known as one of Charlotte’s historic districts, Eastover is a charming neighborhood filled with breathtaking single-family homes. Just southeast of the Uptown neighborhood, Eastover is also home to The Mint Museum of Art and dozens of shops, restaurants, and coffee shops all within walking distance of the main residential areas.

Ballantyne

Tucked along the South Carolina border, Ballantyne is home to several Fortune 500 companies including Wells Fargo and TIAA. This makes it a majorly desirable location for people who work in this area, giving them the opportunity to live and work all in the same neighborhood. Many newly developed luxury apartment buildings and condos are available for those looking to call Ballantyne home.

Plaza-Midwood

Known for its thriving and quirky culture, Plaza-Midwood is the perfect spot for young professionals or first-time homebuyers. The century-old neighborhood is tucked to the west of Charlotte Country Club and has an eclectic mix of trendy shops, historic homes, and breweries and restaurants, making it known for its nightlife and culture.

SouthPark

On the northern edge of the city, SouthPark is a haven for families thanks to the residential feel, low crime rates, and leading school districts. Though it’s often known for the SouthPark Mall—the largest in North Carolina—this sophisticated area is also filled with popular restaurants and bars, exclusive boutiques, and impressive luxury homes.

Dilworth

Dilworth is Charlotte’s first streetcar suburb, which created easy access between this southern neighborhood and downtown. As a result, the area is filled with character and charm thanks to its history and original architecture, with many structures even on the National Register of Historic Places. Thanks to its proximity to Uptown, Dilworth also delivers easy access to Charlotte’s thriving cultural attractions, blending together the best of both urban and suburban.
