Consider these neighborhoods in your home search if you're looking for a mix of quiet community and recreation opportunities.

Young couples, single individuals, and those determined to make their mark professionally find an ideal balance in these trendy areas.

Capital District

Working in government or looking to make an impact at one of Raleigh’s thriving tech employers? The Capital District may be right for you. As the heart of downtown Raleigh, the Capital District houses the State Capitol building and countless business offices.

It’s not all work and no play, though. Cultural offerings like museums, tons of tourist stops, and a wide variety of restaurants and bars make the area a fun and dynamic place to live. For a dining experience you won’t find elsewhere, grab a seat at Second Empire Restaurant and Tavern. The restaurant is located in a delightfully-restored Victorian home, the Dodd-Hinsdale House, which was built in 1879.

Fairmont

As a part of the University Park area, Fairmont houses lots of students and college grads. Proximity to North Carolina State University and Meredith College draws a fair share of professors, too. Outdoor enthusiasts love living here because of the plentiful greenways, parks, and gardens strewn around the neighborhood. Isabella Cannon Park and the Rose Garden are frequent hotspots for residents, and are always filled with joggers and couples strolling. There are plenty of entertainment opportunities, too, from the Raleigh Little Theatre to Mitch’s Tavern and the Cameron Village Shopping Center

Cameron Village

Not to be confused with the quiet Cameron Park, Cameron Village is a more affordable, younger-leaning neighborhood with new construction within reach for young professionals. Some see the neighborhood as the best bargain in downtown Raleigh! Those looking to start out with a condo need look no further - they’re abundant in this neighborhood! Residents enjoy the convenience of living a short drive away from any of Raleigh’s hotspots, plus the added perk of living near the renowned Cameron Village Shopping Center. A robust menu and plenty of beer on tap makes Village Draft House a favorite watering hole for Cameron Village residents.

Five Points

As the name suggests, Five Points is centered where five of Raleigh’s historic neighborhoods converge in a five-street intersection. These neighborhoods, each with its own unique vibe, offer a great mix of suburban peace and downtown activity. The neighborhoods aren’t the only things intersecting; the area is a meeting of old and new, with Colonial Revival-style single family homes alongside newer townhomes. The closer you live to the intersection, the more “downtown” you’ll feel. Along the central Glenwood Avenue and Fairview Road, you’ll find easy public transportation and lots of dining options, like Hayes Barton Cafe and Dessertery

Moore Square

Get a taste of Europe in downtown Raleigh as you wander the cafe-lined, cobblestone streets of Moore Square. Walkable and quiet, the neighborhood offers a welcome reprieve for young professionals paying their dues. In addition to art galleries and independent shops, the neighborhood is home to Moore Square Park, where outdoor events are easy to stumble upon anytime.
