As the weather warms up and schools let out, families and young professionals seek fun outdoor activities for enjoying the Raleigh sun. Check out these fair-weather activities for enjoying the summertime in the Triangle!

Get out on the water

Whether you prefer a stand-up paddleboard, a kayak, or even a sailboat, Raleigh is full of spots to go water-bound. Bring the kids for a water adventure at Fred G. Bond Metro Park, or get your workout in by kayaking on Neuse River Canoe Trail. Regardless of the level of speed and challenge you take on, a day on the water is always the perfect antidote for a scorching summer day!

Fill up at a food-related festival

On top of the endless options for delicious restaurants and breweries with outdoor patios, Raleigh also hosts fun and food-filled community events. On June 12th, head to Fayetteville Street for the annual Downtown Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo! With free admission and over forty food trucks in attendance, taste a variety of North Carolina flavors in a unique and tight-knit setting.

Later in the summer on August 5-6th, attend the Beer, Bourbon and BBQ Festival at Koka Booth Amphitheater. The name tells you all you need to know!

Attend an outdoor concert or film

There are countless opportunities to catch a flick or some tunes under the stars in Raleigh this summer! Parks and amphitheaters across the city offer long line-ups of classic films, family nights, and rom-coms alike while bands from Vampire Weekend to Dierks Bentley grace the stage.

Check out the sunflowers

If you’re looking for a more laid-back day of beautiful sights and plenty of sunshine, head to Dorothea Dix Park for a huge five-acre field full of sunflowers! Grab the camera and the kids and take in the natural beauty of the park. For something more social, head there on July 13th for the SunFest, complete with games, music, and food vendors!
